We paused our own project.

The situation

A client asked us to build a fully automated reporting product. The commercial case was there, the appetite was there, and we had already been engaged to build it. It's exactly the kind of system we exist to deliver.

What we found

The source data couldn't support full automation yet. We could have built it anyway. It would have demoed well, shipped on time, and slowly become a product someone had to babysit, because AI doesn't correct messy data. It scales it.

What changed

We advised pausing the build until the data foundations were fixed, and we put that advice in writing. It was our own paid work we were switching off. The client kept the analysis, kept the trust, and kept the budget for the moment the automation can stand on its own. That's the point of the pause: the product is still the destination. Now it will work when it arrives.

The fastest route to automation that works is fixing what it stands on.
